Area 1 of 5

Can people find you?

3/10 Fix first5 of 15 checks passed

People searching for a bathroom tiler in Waterford find three other tilers before they find you.

The checks

  • You show in the top 3 on Google Maps for your main service in your area
  • You show on the first page of Google for your main service and town
  • You show up for at least half of your other services too
  • Your Google Business Profile is claimed and verified
  • Your profile has the right main category, plus the extra categories that fit
  • Your profile is complete: hours, phone, website, services, service areas and description
  • Your profile has photos from the last 3 months
  • Your name, address and phone number match on your website and every listing
  • You are listed where customers for your kind of business look
  • You are on Apple Maps and Bing too, not just Google
  • Your website's page titles and headings name your services and town
  • Your website gives Google your business details in the form it reads best (structured data)
  • Google has all your main pages in its results
  • Other relevant websites link to yours, such as suppliers, local news or industry bodies
  • AI tools like ChatGPT mention you when asked for your service in your area

What I found

  • You are 6th on Google Maps for "bathroom tiler Waterford". Most people only look at the first three.
  • Your Google profile is listed as "Contractor", not "Tile contractor", and has no services or description.
  • Golden Pages still shows your old mobile number.
  • Your page titles say "Home" and "Services", not bathroom tiling in Waterford.
  • Only 4 other websites link to yours. Your top competitor has 19, including a local paper and two suppliers.
  • Asked for a tiler in Waterford, ChatGPT named two of your competitors but not you.

Why it matters

Most people pick from the first few businesses Google Maps shows them and never scroll further. At 6th, you are invisible to many people who want a bathroom done right now. They are ringing your competitors instead. Moving into the top three costs nothing but time, and it is the biggest single change you can make.

How to fix it

  • Change your main category to "Tile contractor", add "Bathroom remodeler" as a second one, and add each service with a short description.
  • Rename your pages so each title says the service and Waterford.
  • Add 10 recent photos of finished bathrooms and wet rooms, and keep adding one a week.
  • Correct your number on Golden Pages and anywhere else it is out of date.

Area 2 of 5

Does your online presence match the quality of your work?

6/10 Could be better9 of 15 checks passed

Your work looks excellent, but the website takes too long to load and your Facebook page has gone quiet.

The checks

  • Your website passes Google's speed and stability test on a phone
  • Your website works properly on a phone: nothing cut off, buttons easy to tap
  • Your text is easy to read: big enough, with strong contrast
  • Your website is secure (the padlock in the address bar)
  • Your website shows real photos of your work, not stock images
  • Your website is up to date: no old dates, broken links or missing pages
  • You use an email address on your own website name, not Gmail or Hotmail
  • Your main social media page posts at least twice a week
  • Your social media profiles are complete and link to your website
  • Your main social profile says who you are, who you help and what to do next
  • Your @name is the same on every platform you use
  • People react to your posts with comments, shares and messages, not just the odd like
  • Your name, logo and colours look the same on your website, Google and social media
  • Your logo is clear at small sizes, such as a profile picture
  • Your signs, premises, vehicles or packaging match how you look online

What I found

  • Your website takes 5.8 seconds to load on a phone. Many visitors leave after 3.
  • The footer says 2021 and two links on the services page lead nowhere.
  • Your last Facebook post was 7 weeks ago, and it still shows your old logo.

Why it matters

People cannot see your tiling until they see your website, so they judge your work by it. Google found that more than half of phone visitors leave a page that takes longer than 3 seconds to load. At 5.8 seconds, many of the people who click through to you are gone before they see a single bathroom. An out-of-date site also makes a premium tiler look like a cheap one, which pushes people to compare you on price.

Source: Google, The Need for Mobile Speed (53% of mobile visits are abandoned after 3 seconds)

How to fix it

  • Compress the large photos on your homepage (the biggest is 6MB).
  • Update the footer year and fix or remove the two broken links.
  • Swap the old logo on Facebook for your current one and post a finished job this week.

Area 3 of 5

Are visitors turning into customers?

4/10 Fix first5 of 14 checks passed

People who reach your website are not getting in touch as often as they could.

The checks

  • The first screen on a phone says what you do and where
  • Your phone number can be tapped to call without scrolling
  • Every page has one clear main button: call, book, get a quote or buy
  • Your contact form is short: 5 boxes or fewer
  • Reviews or testimonials appear where people decide, not only on one page
  • Your main service pages show examples of real work
  • Customers can see what happens next, and a price guide where it suits
  • Each main service has its own page
  • Your website offers the ways you actually take enquiries, such as WhatsApp or online booking
  • Enquiries are counted when they happen: forms, calls and clicks
  • You can tell which phone calls came from your website, Google profile and ads
  • Links from your Google profile and social pages are tagged, so their visits show up separately
  • Your cookie banner lets your tracking work within the rules
  • You record where each new customer came from

5 checks do not apply to you and are left out. See the appendix.

What I found

  • On a phone, the first screen says "Welcome to our website". It does not say what you do or where.
  • Your phone number is at the bottom of the page and cannot be tapped to call.
  • Your contact form has 9 boxes.
  • All your services share one page, and none of your 23 reviews appear on the site.

Why it matters

Someone planning a new bathroom wants to know in seconds that you do exactly that near them and that others were happy. Every extra tap or box is a chance for them to give up and ring someone else. Fixing this turns more of the visitors you already have into enquiries, without paying for a single extra visitor. And without tracking, you cannot tell which of your efforts actually brings in jobs.

How to fix it

  • Change the first line to "Bathroom and wet room tiling in Waterford" with a Call button beside it.
  • Cut the form to name, phone, town and a message.
  • Add your best three Google reviews to the homepage.

Area 4 of 5

Are your reviews winning you customers?

6/10 Could be better5 of 8 checks passed

Your rating is one of the best in Waterford. You just need more reviews, more often.

The checks

  • You have at least as many Google reviews as your competitors on average
  • Your Google rating is 4.5 stars or higher
  • You have a review from the last 30 days
  • Reviews come in every month, not in bursts
  • You reply to your reviews
  • Your reviews mention the services you want more of
  • You have reviews on the other sites your customers use
  • You have an easy way to ask every customer for a review

1 check does not apply to you and is left out. See the appendix.

What I found

  • You have 23 Google reviews at 4.8 stars. Your competitors average 31.
  • Reviews come in bursts: 6 in March, then none in May, June or July.
  • You reply to every review, which customers notice.

Why it matters

People read reviews before they let a tradesperson into their home, and they trust numbers: a 4.8 with 23 reviews can lose to a 4.6 with 60. Gaps of several months make a business look quiet. A steady flow of new reviews reassures customers and tells Google you are active, which helps you climb on Maps.

How to fix it

  • Text every customer your review link the day you finish the job.
  • Put a small card with a QR code for your review link in with your invoice.

Area 5 of 5

Is your marketing paying for itself?

4/10 Fix first3 of 8 checks passed

Your boosted posts reach the right towns but are not built to bring in enquiries.

The checks

  • Your ads promote the service that makes you the most money
  • Your ads reach the areas your customers are in
  • Your ads give people a clear reason to get in touch now
  • Your ads show your real work
  • Your ads are fresh: new ones in the last 90 days
  • Your ads send people to a page about that service, not just the homepage
  • That page makes the next step obvious
  • Your website has the tracking your ads need to count enquiries

What I found

  • You are boosting general posts, not your bathroom and wet room work.
  • Riverside Tile Studio, first on Maps, has run the same bathroom renovation ad on Facebook for 5 months. Businesses rarely keep paying for an ad that does not bring in work.
  • The boosted posts send people to your homepage, which does not say what you do.
  • Nothing on your website counts the enquiries your ads bring in, so you cannot tell whether they pay.

Why it matters

A boosted post shows people your work but does not ask them to do anything, so most scroll past. Ads that bring in enquiries give people one clear next step: a page about that one service, a special offer or a short form built into the ad itself. With a form, they can send their details without leaving Facebook. The same money then goes much further. Without tracking in place, you are paying for ads with no way of knowing which ones bring in jobs.

How to fix it

  • Pause the boosts until the Meta pixel is on your website.
  • Run one ad for bathroom renovations with before and after photos, sending people to a bathroom page.

Written in your voice as far as I can tell it. Change anything that does not sound like you. Four short lines beat a paragraph, because a phone cuts a bio off after a couple of lines.

One @name everywhere

Someone who searches Instagram for the name on your invoices finds nothing, and the ones who do find you cannot be sure it is the same business. I would make them all @harbourlinetiling: it is free on every platform, short and easy to say out loud.

Before you change anything: a new handle breaks links people have already shared, platforms limit how often you can change it, and someone else can take the old one. So decide the name, check it is free everywhere, and change them all in one sitting.

Ad figures come from the Meta Ad Library and the Google Ads Transparency Centre. Reach is Meta's own estimate for the EU. Neither shows what anyone spends. An ad that keeps running for months is usually one that brings in business.

In my view

My own recommendations

What I would do first

If this were my business, I would spend one evening on the Google profile and start texting the review link after every job. Those two alone should move you up the Maps results within a couple of months, and they cost nothing.

What I would not spend money on

What you told me has not worked

Leaflets through doors twice a year, and boosting posts on Facebook. I never knew if either brought in work.

Neither was measured, so there was no way to tell, and that is the real problem rather than the leaflets or the posts. Give the leaflets one more run with a code on them before deciding. Hold the boosted posts until the tracking is in, then run one proper bathroom ad instead.

What to post about

Three things to post about, built from your goals, your customers and the questions they ask before they buy. Aim for at least 3 posts a week.

1

Before and after

Your customers are planning a project and want to see what is possible.

  • A 15-second video: the old bathroom, then the finished wet room.
  • Three photos of one job with the town and how long it took.
2

Behind the tiles

Customers often ask about waterproofing. Showing the work they never see builds trust in your price.

  • Why you tank a wet room before tiling, in 30 seconds.
  • The prep work under a floor that stops tiles cracking.
3

Your questions answered

Every question customers ask before they buy is a post that answers the next customer.

  • "How long does a bathroom take?" answered in one post.
  • "Do you supply the tiles?" with where you source them.
