What you are doing well
Do these three first
Area 1 of 5
People searching for a bathroom tiler in Waterford find three other tilers before they find you.
The checks
Most people pick from the first few businesses Google Maps shows them and never scroll further. At 6th, you are invisible to many people who want a bathroom done right now. They are ringing your competitors instead. Moving into the top three costs nothing but time, and it is the biggest single change you can make.
| Search | Google Maps | AI tools | |
|---|---|---|---|
| bathroom tiler waterford | 8th | 6th | Not named |
| wet room waterford | 14th | 9th | Not named |
| tiler near me | 11th | 7th | Not named |
Checked from Waterford city on a phone. Positions move from day to day, so treat these as a snapshot. The AI check asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the same three questions.
| Where | Name | Phone | Website link |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you told me | Matches | Matches | Matches |
| Google profile | Matches | Matches | Matches |
| Your website | Matches | Matches | Matches |
| Harbourline Tiling Waterford | Matches | Matches | |
| Golden Pages | Matches | Old mobile number | No link |
| Bing Places | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
Google checks that your details agree everywhere before it trusts them. An old number also sends real customers to a phone nobody answers.
Area 2 of 5
Your work looks excellent, but the website takes too long to load and your Facebook page has gone quiet.
The checks
People cannot see your tiling until they see your website, so they judge your work by it. Google found that more than half of phone visitors leave a page that takes longer than 3 seconds to load. At 5.8 seconds, many of the people who click through to you are gone before they see a single bathroom. An out-of-date site also makes a premium tiler look like a cheap one, which pushes people to compare you on price.

Area 3 of 5
People who reach your website are not getting in touch as often as they could.
The checks
5 checks do not apply to you and are left out. See the appendix.
Someone planning a new bathroom wants to know in seconds that you do exactly that near them and that others were happy. Every extra tap or box is a chance for them to give up and ring someone else. Fixing this turns more of the visitors you already have into enquiries, without paying for a single extra visitor. And without tracking, you cannot tell which of your efforts actually brings in jobs.
Area 4 of 5
Your rating is one of the best in Waterford. You just need more reviews, more often.
The checks
1 check does not apply to you and is left out. See the appendix.
People read reviews before they let a tradesperson into their home, and they trust numbers: a 4.8 with 23 reviews can lose to a 4.6 with 60. Gaps of several months make a business look quiet. A steady flow of new reviews reassures customers and tells Google you are active, which helps you climb on Maps.
Area 5 of 5
Your boosted posts reach the right towns but are not built to bring in enquiries.
The checks
2 checks do not apply to you and are left out. See the appendix.
A boosted post shows people your work but does not ask them to do anything, so most scroll past. Ads that bring in enquiries give people one clear next step: a page about that one service, a special offer or a short form built into the ad itself. With a form, they can send their details without leaving Facebook. The same money then goes much further. Without tracking in place, you are paying for ads with no way of knowing which ones bring in jobs.

Side by side
The businesses customers weigh you up against when they search for bathroom tiling in Waterford, compared on search, reviews, AI tools, websites, social media and ads.
| You | Riverside Tile Studio | Suirview Tiling | Coastline Floors | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Maps position | 6th | 1st | 2nd | 4th |
| Google reviews | 23 | 41 | 28 | 24 |
| Google rating | 4.8★ | 4.9★ | 4.7★ | 4.6★ |
| Named by AI tools | No | Yes | Yes | No |
| Website on a phone | Slow (5.8s) | Fast | Fast | Average |
| Posts a week | Under 1 | 3 | 1 | 2 |
| Ads in the last 30 days | 3 boosted posts | Facebook 4, Google 6 | None | Facebook 2 |
| Longest-running ad | 6 weeks | 5 months | – | 3 weeks |
| Facebook and Instagram ad reach | About 4,800 | About 12,000 | – | About 3,500 |
| First impression | Great photos, unclear first screen | Clear offer, quote button up front | Price guide on the homepage | Stock photos, few real jobs |
Ad figures come from the Meta Ad Library and the Google Ads Transparency Centre. Reach is Meta's own estimate for the EU. Neither shows what anyone spends. An ad that keeps running for months is usually one that brings in business.
In my view
If this were my business, I would spend one evening on the Google profile and start texting the review link after every job. Those two alone should move you up the Maps results within a couple of months, and they cost nothing.
Leaflets through doors twice a year, and boosting posts on Facebook. I never knew if either brought in work.
Neither was measured, so there was no way to tell, and that is the real problem rather than the leaflets or the posts. Give the leaflets one more run with a code on them before deciding. Hold the boosted posts until the tracking is in, then run one proper bathroom ad instead.

What to do, in order
In order of what will bring in the most. Everything you can do yourself comes with simple steps and a time.
Social media
Your content plan, built from your goals, your customers and the questions they ask before they buy.
Your customers are planning a project and want to see what is possible.
Customers often ask about waterproofing. Showing the work they never see builds trust in your price.
Every question customers ask before they buy is a post that answers the next customer.
People let you into their home. Showing who turns up builds trust before the first visit.
Customers are choosing tiles and want help deciding. Helping them is how you stop being compared on price.
Formats to use
How often
You told me you post now and then. Aim for at least 3 posts a week. More is better for how Facebook and Instagram show posts today, as long as each one is worth seeing. Make Facebook your priority because most of your customers are 35 to 64. Share the same posts to Instagram, where younger homeowners look for ideas.

Growth Audit · your real figures
Most people leave between your services page and your contact page. On a phone the contact page is three taps away and the form has 9 boxes.
Someone planning a bathroom usually contacts two or three tilers and goes with whoever gets back first. One well-known study found that replying within 5 minutes made a business 21 times more likely to turn an enquiry into a real conversation than replying after 30 minutes. You cannot answer the phone halfway through tiling a wall, so an automatic text to missed calls ("Sorry I missed you, I will ring you back within the hour") keeps the customer from ringing the next tiler while you finish up.Source: Lead Response Management study, MIT and InsideSales.com
